FONTANA, California — November 4, 2026. Fontana voters chose candidates for different City Council districts alongside a separate mayoral election. The county’s latest unofficial election-night report shows early leads for Phillip Cothran in District 1 and Luz Perez in District 4.
District 1
Phillip Cothran received 5,074 votes (58.55%) to Nubia Diaz’s 3,587 (41.39%). The county reported 22 of 22 precincts for this district. Those precinct figures do not mean every outstanding valid ballot has been counted.
District 4
Luz Perez received 2,606 votes (43.53%), followed by John B. Roberts with 2,039 (34.06%) and Ben Vasquez with 1,341 (22.40%). Perez’s reported lead over Roberts is 567 votes.
Why district lines matter
These are two different council seats representing different parts of Fontana, so city residents do not all vote on both races. They are separate from the seven-candidate mayoral race in which Acquanetta Warren led Jocelyn “Joz” Sida in the same county report. Fontana News has separate coverage of the mayoral and clerk/treasurer elections; this article focuses on council representation.
Next update
The Registrar of Voters labels this a final unofficial election-night tally and schedules the next countywide update for November 5 by 6 p.m. Pacific. Results may shift as the legally required canvass continues.
